Music and Arts are an integral part of the mission and day-to-day life of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta. Walking down the halls of the church, there’s no doubt you’ll hear people singing or playing an instrument, beautiful organ music echoing through the hallways, bells ringing, and the giggles of children in Art class. You may even encounter a few little ballerinas.
If you have a talent for or an interest in the Arts, we welcome you to join us in an ensemble, for a class, or for an event. You’ll have a great time! Information on the various groups and events can be found here.
Our volunteer Chancel Choir and Orchestra are known throughout the region for their excellence and perform a large repertoire from early music to Gospels and Spirituals. The choir leads at the 11 a.m. worship service every Sunday, joined by the orchestra on Christmas, Easter and other special Sundays. Both choir and orchestra offer additional concerts throughout the year.
Children’s and Youth Choirs are offered at every age from 4 years old through twelve grade. Practice times are on Sunday mornings, and the children participate in worship from time to time.
Our Carillon Bell Choir is an enthusiastic group of ringers who participate in worship about five times per year.
The School of Fine Arts operates seven days a week, offering classes in Visual Arts, Tumbling, Ballet and other areas. Private lessons for many different instruments and voice are offered by top-notch instructors throughout the week for children and adults.
The Concerts @ First Series (formerly Musica Sacra Atlanta) runs from September through May, offering diverse programs by reputed soloists and ensembles in the beautiful setting of First Pres’ sanctuary.
The Arts Council offers events throughout the year, including gallery tours and lectures. They also take great advantage of our location so close to the Woodruff Arts Center.
There’s always an opportunity to engage in the Arts at FPC. Through these ensembles, classes and concerts, we hope to educate, enrich and entertain while glorifying God.
Please contact Dr. Jens Korndoerfer, Director of Worship, the Arts and Organist, at 404-228-7731 if you have any questions or would like to discuss how you could become a part of the arts ministry at First Presbyterian Church.
