Today’s Scripture
Today’s Author
Katie Sundermeier
Two of them were walking and talking with each other about “all these things that had happened.” When Jesus approaches - although his identity is not yet known to them - they share what they have been processing: Jesus of Nazareth was killed and yet today the body is not there. “They told us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive.”
I love that the two sojourners were talking with one another about what matters in life. They were wondering about the miracle of resurrection. They shared the story with another who joined in on the walk to Emmaus.
How are we doing these days in talking about what matters? Are we open to resurrection power in our own lives today? Will we share our stories?
So often Jesus is revealed in the conversations we have with one another. We see better where God is leading us or we gain a new understanding from another’s perspective.
This week I was walking with a friend from the church. I appreciate the friendship she has with her sister, and I asked her about it. Her reflections of acceptance and honor in place of criticism and judgment were life-giving for me. I believe we need to do a better job of connecting with one another, including in our differences. To see this being done in action was powerful and influential.
Talk about what matters with one another! Be open to resurrection power in your life today!
Summer Devotional
God Goes With Us
This summer’s devotional is a walk through the Bible. Join our pastors and staff for daily reflections on scripture passages from Genesis to Revelation. In the beginning, God said, “I will be your God and you will be my people.” Come and see how this covenant promise changes through time yet remains steadfast from generation to generation.
Each Sunday, Chris Holmes will share a short message on the texts for the week, and written reflections will go out every Monday through Thursday morning.
We wish you blessings and deeper faith this summer!
