Today’s Scripture
Today’s Author
Katie Sundermeier
Luke chapter 4 reminds me of times when I knew what God was calling me to do, and I was clear and focused to follow on that path. For example, 21 years ago, I knew that Tony was the one God brought to me to be my husband. I remember knowing five years ago that God, along with the Board of the Samaritan Counseling Center, was calling me to serve as their Executive Director. Can you recall a time like this in your own life?
By this time in Luke’s story of Jesus, Jesus was filled with the Spirit, people were talking about him far and wide, and he was “praised by everyone.” However, when he headed to Nazareth, Jesus was not praised and honored. In fact, they drove Jesus out of the town and tried to hurl him off a cliff.
Yet Jesus remained steadfast and faithful to the mission God had called him to because he was clear and focused on God’s calling in his life.
When we remember that God has called us to a certain way of life, we receive courage and strength and encouragement from the Spirit to stay the course. When you know where or how God is calling you to live and serve, may you do so wholeheartedly. May you be encouraged by our church family for that mission.
Summer Devotional
God Goes With Us
This summer’s devotional is a walk through the Bible. Join our pastors and staff for daily reflections on scripture passages from Genesis to Revelation. In the beginning, God said, “I will be your God and you will be my people.” Come and see how this covenant promise changes through time yet remains steadfast from generation to generation.
Each Sunday, Chris Holmes will share a short message on the texts for the week, and written reflections will go out every Monday through Thursday morning.
We wish you blessings and deeper faith this summer!
