What We Miss About Church: Congregant Reflections
For our devotionals this month, we asked various congregants what they miss the most about being together. Join us for this series of reflections that remind us of what we miss and who we are called to be.
Scripture for the Day
Matthew 18:20
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there among them.
There are so many things I miss about our life inside the walls of First Presbyterian Church on Sundays. Perhaps it's the relationships with staff, ministers and members - both old and young - that make my heart ache for Sunday mornings at church. I have enjoyed listening to sermons with my family curled up with coffee on the sofa or on the back porch, but nothing beats the time in the sanctuary at 16th and Peachtree streets with squirming children beside me, as we all lift our voices in praise and worship.
I have to admit that as a mother, Sunday mornings can be daunting. Wrangling two children through a sticky breakfast, finding the right shoes and arguing about whether the dreaded 'white tights' must be worn - it is a marathon to get the four of us in the car and to the church in time for my husband to teach 4th and 5th graders about God. But now this is only a memory, and as with many memories, I miss those days and long for them to return. I hope that we will all be a little more eager to hop up and get ready (no fighting) so that we can go worship and grow in our faith with our family of faith. I see God in all of your faces, big and small, young and old. I cannot wait to gather once again, safely, to enjoy deepening our spiritual lives as one community.
