Sunday, February 25th - Bryan Brooks discussed "Then He Wept" and "Feast in the House of Simon the Pharisee" Enrique Simonet's "Then He Wept" depicts the Biblical story of Christ standing on the Mount of Olives, overlooking Jerusalem and grieving for the city. Simonet's work is based on a passage from the Gospel of Saint Luke (19:41). Intimate and moving, the composition invites us to join Jesus' followers on the mountain top and listen as he laments. "Feast in the House of Simon the Pharisee" is a painting by Peter Paul Rubens and Anthony Van Dyck. It was painted c. 1618 - 1620. The painting depicts an incident from Luke 7 where Jesus visits Simon the Pharisee. During the feast in the House of Simon the Pharisee, at which Christ and his disciples were present, a repentant woman entered the house and washed Christ's feet with her tears, wiped them with her hair, and then anointed them.
