Office Hours for Lent: Jesus and the Way of the Cross

Jesus and the Cross

The season of Lent is typically associated with rigor and self-denial. Christians are encouraged to follow Jesus into a metaphorical wilderness through giving up some worldly pleasure or taking up a new spiritual discipline. For many, though, the whole year of 2020 has felt like a wilderness experience: separation from loved ones, new demands at work and home, and various forms of personal and social brokenness. In this Office Hours study, Chris Holmes and Brennan Breed (Old Testament professor at Columbia Theological Seminary) will explore passages related to Lent, but focus on how God meets us in the wilderness through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

Each week’s class will be livestreamed using Facebook Live. Join the Office Hours Facebook group, watch the classes, and add your comments.

Those who do not have access to Facebook can join using Zoom. Participants on Zoom will be able to view the classes and ask questions of the hosts.

Participants who want a deeper experience may also register to receive free access to course material, complete with syllabus, downloadable readings, and audio-video links for further study. Here is the registration link on the Columbia website.

If you have questions, email Chris Holmes.
